Half Time Game at Sonora High School
The gym at Sonora High School was packed with every seat in the bleachers filled and many standing along the walls on Friday night, January 30. Sonora hosted Sunny Hills that evening, but that is not what was solely responsible for filling the seats. Nor was it the reason many Sonora students and faculty members wore yellow shirts with the words Best Buds printed on them.
The gym was filled to the rafters because at half time two teams from HoopStars were scheduled to play. HoopStars provides a basketball and social environment for mentally and/or physically challenged children and adults. It was begun in 1997 with 5 players and has grown to over 175 in North Orange County.
